TikTok vs. YouTube – The Social Jar Xtra #2

TikTok is the without doubt, the hottest social media platform in the world. We love it here at Uni4m and we’ve discussed it, many times, on The Social Jar Podcast. But in a news story that went somewhat under the radar, it was reported last week that the ByteDance-owned app had officially overtaken YouTube in average watch time.

This could only mean one thing: The Social Jar Xtra #2!

To respond to this seismic shift in the online video industry, Dan Wiseman, Andreas Georgiou and Beth Dunkerley hopped back on Twitter Spaces to host the second-ever interactive edition of TSJ Xtra.

The team discussed the data first reported by analytics firm App Annie. Their study revealed that amongst Android users, US TikTok’ers watched over 24 hours of content in June 2021, compared with 22 hours and 40 minutes on YouTube. In the UK, the difference was even greater.
