The Social Jar #7 – Milk Crate Challenge: Game Over

One of TikTok’s viral (and quite frankly, hilarious) trends came to an end this week – and The Social Jar team are here to break down why. In episode 7, Dan, Andreas and Ryan are back to give you your favourite, bi-weekly dive into all of the biggest social media news.

The lads discuss the end of the ‘milk crate challenge‘, A change to Instagram policy requirements and the developing rivalry between Twitch and YouTube Gaming

It’s been a pretty crazy couple of weeks online. Since the release of episode 6, we’ve seen plenty of changes to major platforms. But it was Instagram’s recent announcement that raised eyebrows here at Uni4m HQ. The platform recently revealed that it will begin making a complete date of birth a mandatory requirement for all accounts. Sounds pretty tedious, right?

As it turns out, it’s quite the opposite.

This episode also marked the first time that TSJ team have ventured into the world of online streaming. It is an industry that, for so long, has been dominated by Twitch. However, of late, it seems that the tide may be starting to turn. In a week that saw ‘DrLupo’ become the latest major name to leave the subscription platform for YouTube Gaming, Dan, Andreas and Ryan discuss exactly what the future holds for Twitch and their YouTube rival.

Finally, TikTok’s ban of the ‘milk crate challenge’. The series saw people stack milk crates into an unstable pyramid, before trying to scale it. More often than not, you can guess how it ended up. As a result, TikTok moved to put an abrupt end to the series on the app, citing their health and safety guidelines. However, you can still get your milk crate fix. Find out how in this week’s episode…
