The Social Jar #10 – Enter The Metaverse

The Social Jar Podcast is back! After a two-month hiatus, Dan and Andreas are back with your favourite social media show. This week, the boys turn to Twitter and Meta to break down two of social media’s biggest news stories from 2021.

Download The Social Jar on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Or, if you prefer to watch along, head over to our YouTube channel for the video version.

First up, is the news of Jack Dorsey’s resignation. The Twitter CEO stepped down from his role last week, much to the shock of the online world. He’s to be replaced by chief technology officer Parag Agrawal, in a move that has caused quite a stir (which is a huge understatement). Dorsey said himself that the decision was a totally voluntary one. But Dan and Andreas aren’t so sure…

Then, the boys take a trip into the Metaverse. The interactive, all-encompassing world that is now the end goal for Meta (formerly Facebook) is the rebrand that everyone is talking about. Meta/Facebook have been front-page news for months now, mostly for reasons that have put them under a LOT of scrutiny (See TSJ #8). This week, they’re back in the social media bad books, in relation to their purchase of GIF-hosting platform Giphy
