The Social Jar #8 – The Facebook Files

The Social Jar gang are back to discuss one of the biggest social media news stories of September – ‘The Facebook Files‘. The boys break down all of the biggest talking points from the Wall Street Journal’s damning exposé. Also, drastic TikTok news coming out of China and a lazy (yet rather funny) online campaign from Nintendo.

The Facebook Files are the findings of a report by WSJ. The exposé found that “Facebook inc. knows, in acute detail, that its platforms are riddled with flaws that cause harm”.

The second story out of the jar this week relates to China’s TikTok equivalent, Douyin. The app is introducing a “teenage mode”, limiting younger users to 40 minutes a day. Douyin will also be unavailable to its younger users between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m..

To round off Episode 8, the boys look at Wario’s (weird) takeover of Nintendo America’s Twitter account to promote the upcoming WarioWare: Get It Together video game.

Episode 8 is available on all good podcast platforms. Download The Social Jar on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Or, if you prefer to watch along, head over to our YouTube channel for the video version.
