The Social Jar #6 – TikTok’s New Tools, OnlyFans, DeVito’s Blue Tick

If last week was TSJ’s Empire Strikes Back, this is its Return of the Jedi. The pod is back in its regular slot to discuss all of the biggest stories from the world of social media. This week, Dan is joined by Andreas and Ryan to talk TikTok’s new linkup with Canva and Vimeo, the future of OnlyFans, as well as a potential Twitter conspiracy theory involving Danny DeVito’s blue tick

TikTok’s collaboration with Canva and Vimeo aims to “streamline creative advertising for small businesses”. It will tie the three platforms together, allowing small business owners to create good-looking content faster than ever before. The guys discuss just how popular they think this new three-way relationship will be, as well as whether the content will truly fit in with the platform.

However, the biggest social media news story this week was easily that of OnlyFans. In a HUGE change to the company’s policy, the platform planned to ban “sexually explicit content”. This update was set to come into effect on October 1st. The Social Jar team proposes their ideas as to what the future of the subscription website (if there is one) could be going forward.

Finally, the guys have their tin foil hats on to round off this week’s show. Last week, actor Danny DeVito lost his verified status on Twitter after tweeting his support for striking Nabisco workers in the US. This caused outrage on the platform. Twitter later confirmed that it was a routine removal, lost due to missing information on his profile. The Matilda star was then reunited with his blue tick just a day later. Conspiracy? You decide.

Episode 6 is available on all popular podcast streaming platforms. It is live on BuzzsproutSpotify, and Apple Podcasts. Also, there is also a video version on YouTube.
